Rock Hill, South Carolina is the largest city in York County. It is home to approximately 60,000 residents and is the fifth largest in the state. The city was named for a hill of flint rock that impeded the progress of the Charlotte and South Carolina Railroad Company. The rail line was built from Charlotte to Columbia and much of the flint rock had to be removed to make way for the railroad. A depot was constructed at the site that evenually became known as Rock Hill.
